Getting Sick and Getting Paid

Do you know what short term disability insurance is all about? Most people don’t know that when they take sick leave, they’re actually using a special type of disability insurance. Sometimes big agencies combine sick leave into the vacation time…which is kind of sad. If you do have it, you’re lucky. It’s nice to know that you are earning money even if you’re ill. I’m sure that you would feel comfortable with short term disability insurance rather than not having it at all.

Remedies for a Sinus Infection

May 7th, 2008 Shawn Smith

Sinusitis (commonly known as a sinus infection) is inflammation, either bacterial, viral, allergic or autoimmune, of the paranasal sinuses.

It can be acute (going on less than three weeks) or chronic (going on more than three weeks). Sinusitis is one of the most common complications of the common cold. Sinus Infection symptoms include: Headache; facial pain; nasal congestion; fever; general malaise; thick green or yellow discharge; feeling of facial ‘fullness’ worsening on bending over.

Factors which may predispose to developing sinusitis include: allergies; structural problems such as a deviated nasal septum; smoking; nasal polyps; carrying the cystic fibrosis gene (research is still tentative).

Exploring the Symptoms of Sinus Infection

April 29th, 2008 Shawn Smith

I was sneezing throughout my younger years and didn’t know what hit me. My school nurse told me that I had a cold. During those days, nobody really doubted a school nurse. Her advice was highly trusted amongst the students. I was the type of kid that would be wiping my nose and sniffling all day.

A few years later, I started to doubt what the school nurse told me. How could I be sneezing and wiping my nasal drip for so long?” I decided to get a second opinion from different nurse. She diagnosed my symptoms as allergies.

So I went home and asked my parents about getting allergy medicine. My mom never used it before, although sinus problems were quite hereditary. My parents bough the allergy medication. Unfortunately it caused drowsiness. I could remember being so sleepy during class time. I couldn’t believe that my teacher actually accused me of taking drugs (the kind that aren’t allowed at school) when in fact I was only taking allergy medication.

That was the start of my sinus infection problems. There are two types of infections that you can have. This problem is also referred to as sinusitis. These are called acute sinus infections and chronic sinus infections.

Here’s the details:

Acute Sinusitis Symptoms

* Headaches
* Mucus drainage down the back of the throat
* Fever is common
* Facial pain or soreness
* Pressure around the sinus cavities
* Nasal congestion
* Pain behind the eyes
* Nasal discharge
* Vision problems

Chronic Sinus Infection Symptoms

* Bad breath
* Prolonged facial pain
* Chronic nasal discharge
* Pain below the eyes
* Prolonged headaches
* Pressure across or above your nasal passages
* Chronic sore throat
* Toothaches

When Will These Sinus Infection Symptoms Go Away?

There’s man similarities between the 2 types of symptoms. The actual difference can be seen in the period of time for which symptoms will last. Acute sinus infections can last for several weeks. Chronic sinus infections typically last for longer period of time.

What Should I Use To Get Rid of Sinus Infections?

It might be the case that over-the-counter medications or herbal remedies can assist you. Seeking help from a medical professional is advised. I’m guessing that you would want to take a medication without having any problems, wouldn’t you?
